True to its meaning (Kannada - ‘clouds’), Mugilu is a homestay and plantation stay located on undulating hills in a small village near Sakleshpur.
Mugilu - a place where time stands still. 24 hours feel like 24 hours and not like a fraction gone by without realizing life around you.
Discover or rather rediscover yourself and your loved ones amidst a setting where the only sounds you hear are of trees, birds, insects, frogs and various other forms of life which are exclusive to the western ghats of India, one among the only 24 bio diversity hotspots of the world.
Mugilu is just 230 km from Bangalore and with the new roads, its a pleasant 4 hour drive from the city for an ideal getaway anytime. In these serene surroundings, you have ample opportunities for bird and butterfly watching - both endemic and migratory. Most guests who visit Mugilu prefer to just soak in the surroundings by doing nothing but having a book in hand and relaxing.
Mugilu experiences gusty winds and cool breeze almost all days in the year. Anyone staying here will have the chance to witness glorious spring days, a light summer, misty mornings, torrential monsoon and chilly winters.
‘Having three cottages, Mugilu is exclusively for couples and small families only’. This provides a perfect home ambience and personal attention while still sufficiently spread out to offer every guest their own space without intrusions.
The Sakleshpur Homestay
Sakleshpur “Sakala-Eshwara-Pura”
Literally, this means - “a place where Shiva is omnipresent”
“You know all those dreamy sequences of green meadows,
plantations, misty mornings, winding roads, dew drops
glistening at dawn and totally starry nights ? Its not a
dream, its reality if you head to the western ghats and the
outskirts of Sakleshpur.
The key really is to get to the hills. While it is possible to go trekking in these areas, I would recommend a good homestay experience to really soak in the surroundings.
Sakleshpur is not for the hustling bustling traveller always looking for something new to do. Its for the nature lover, the bird watcher, the trekker, the one who wants to inhale not exhale.
I wouldn't recommend more than 3 days but I would recommend that you try 3 days in each season. The dry spring, the warm summer, the extremely wet monsoon for the rain lovers, the windy second summer and the chill of the late year. I have only managed 3 of these five in the last four years but I will come back for more.”
